1. Smeg BCC02
Created by Milan-based firm Deep Design, this sleek, compact and striking machine combines the distinctive retro style of the brand with cutting-edge technology. The machine is able to handle all the steps of the coffee-making procedure, from grinding beans to the tamping of a puck and texturing milk to dispensing the correct amount.
The machine also features an attractive brushed aluminum front and comes in red, black or taupe, so it's easy to integrate into most kitchen designs. It's not without flaws, however. The majority of reviewers thought it was expensive for a cup to bean maker (and does not come with a pitcher of milk).
There were also numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee and the ease of using this machine. The intuitive digital display provides step-by-step guidance and feedback throughout the brewing process, helping you perfect your drink every time. It will even alert you to alter the grind size if it's not enough. It's like having your own personal barista at home (minus Elon Musk's rocket building skills and Harry Potter's invisible cape).
If you prefer milky drinks this model comes with a steam wand that's adjustable up and down to accommodate all drinking vessels, but not the drinking horn of Vikings. We were impressed with the speed and efficiency of the frothing process as well. It also produces an excellent espresso, with great crema and a full flavor despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder. It's quiet and efficient, and is a great value at a price that is currently PS499. The only drawback is that it does not offer the same level of customization as some of the other bean to cup models we've tested. It's got a 15-bar pump, rather than the usual 19 bars, which isn't as good to make high-quality espressos. But other than that it's a fantastic bean-to-cup machine for those who prefer their coffee strong and black. 2. Melitta Barista TS Smart
The Barista TS Smart has a range of features that differentiate it from the rest of the competitors. Its most distinctive feature could be that it can now be controlled via your smartphone via the Melitta Connect App. This allows you to change settings and dispensing different coffee recipes that are stored in the machine itself.
This makes the machine super flexible and able to adapt to your preferences. There are plenty of options for changing the strength of your drinks as well as various sizes of cups and even whether or not you want to add milk. The machine is equipped with two airtight bottles of beans that are automatically selected to match different types of drinks. It will default to standard espresso beans in one, and cafe creme (a German variation of long black or flat white) in the other however, you can select any beans you'd like. There is also a chute that can be used for pre-ground beans if you prefer to make your own.
The users have also been awed by the speed of the machine. It is more efficient than other machine they've used. Another benefit is that the machine will alert you when one of its hoppers is about to be empty, so you don't get caught out by running out of your favourite drink.
The price could be a worry for some. The machine isn't inexpensive, with prices that are close to PS999. It's still less expensive than comparable Jura machines with similar features.
The Barista TS Smart is backed by an extensive warranty that provides two years of protection. This is longer than the typical one-year warranty, which is a assurance from the manufacturer. It also comes with a cleaning tablet and a descaler, making it simple to stay up to date with the machine's maintenance requirements. This is a great machine for those looking to buy a high-quality, multi-functional bean to cup machine at an affordable price.
